BEETHOVEN: Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Op. 55, Eroica
STRAUSS: Ein Heldenleben, Op. 40

Music Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin returns to lead the fabulous Philadelphians in a program of two heroic works by Strauss and Beethoven. Beethoven’s score was originally dedicated to Napoleon, but when the military leader declared himself Emperor, Beethoven went to the table in a rage, seized the title-page, tore it in half and threw it on the floor. The page was later re-copied and the work renamed Sinfonia Eroica.

Vail RocksAugust 16, 2014

Vail Rocks is a musically charged hike up Vail Mountain to benefit the Love Hope Strength Foundation. This gorgeous mountain has quickly become the flagship hike for LHS in the United States. Participants hiked alongside musicians, cancer survivors and supporters with acoustic jams along the way. Past participating artists have included; Mike Peters, Big Country, G Love, Brett Dennen, Cy Curnin of the Fixx, Miles Zuniga of Fastball, School of Rock and more.

Funds from Vail Rocks 2012 and 2013 have supported the Love Hope Strength Foundation. Love Hope Strength turns concerts into lifesaving events. Through their GET ON THE LIST campaign they register marrow donors resulting in matches from concerts around the world. Through unique events, like Everest Rocks and Kilimanjaro Rocks, we build cancer centers, giving people access to early detection and quality cancer care. Vail Rocks funds were used to pay for 2 additional doctors to treat the children in the Love, Hope and Strength cancer wards in Tanzania and to build their GET ON THE LIST campaign. To date, four potentially life-saving marrow donors were located through Vail Rocks participants alone.
